Elegant Seljord vases from Porsgrund – mid-century Norwegian porcelain blending folk tradition with timeless design. Beautiful as stand-alone pieces, and even more captivating when displayed together.

This collection consists of five vases in different shapes and sizes:
– The tallest at 35 cm (13.8 in)
– Two matching 19 cm (7.5 in) vases with variations of the motif (one bold with a gilded rim at the top/around the opening, one delicate/with smaller decor)
– A smaller, wider vase at 14 cm (5.5 in)
– The smallest at 10 cm (3.9 in). This vase has a gilded rim at the top/around the opening.

Each vase has its own unique form, apart from the pair of 19 cm examples. They are offered individually in the shop menu, but together they create a striking group arrangement. With their varied heights and narrow openings, they are perfect for displaying a few flowers or branches in each — elegant both alone and as a set.

Material: Fine porcelain
Designer: Torstein Rønjom (1908–1969)
Producer: Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik, Norway
Period: Introduced in the 1960s; these examples stamped late 1960s
Series: Seljord décor
Condition: Overall in good vintage condition, consistent with age (1960s). The décor is in excellent shape, with colours and gilding well preserved. Minimal marks, crazing, and small flaws are present. Several vases show minor imperfections in the porcelain from production, most visible on the largest vase at the top of the neck. The smallest vase has a tiny chip in the gilded rim of the spout. The next-to-tallest vase, with the delicate motif, shows the same plus a fine craze line across one “corner” of the body. Please see photos for details. These are genuine vintage pieces, used but well cared for, and overall they present very nicely.

The Seljord décor is one of Porsgrund’s most cherished designs. First introduced in the 1960s, it was created by Norwegian folk art and rosemaling artist Torstein Rønjom. He reimagined the strong colors of rural rosemaling into soft dove-blue and silver-grey, giving the pattern an elegant and timeless character that has made it beloved for more than 60 years.

A fine example of mid-century Norwegian design, these vases are as functional as they are collectible. They also pair seamlessly with the Seljord dinnerware available in another listing, for those wishing to build a more complete collection of this iconic pattern.
