Description
The Java décor embodies the optimism of the atomic age with its rhythmic triangles and diamond motifs, arranged in a pattern that is both modern and timeless. The Nektar model reinforces this geometry with a raised triangular border that mirrors the printed decoration. Together, form and pattern create a perfect harmony of Scandinavian mid-century modern design.
 
The cups, gently flaring and set on a narrow foot, are beautifully proportioned. Drinking from this thin porcelain is a tactile delight: light in the hand, delicate against the lips, and refined in its balance. About the designer
Tias Eckhoff (1926–2016) was one of Norway’s most influential mid-century designers. After studying ceramics at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo, he joined Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik in 1949 and soon became its head designer. Over several decades he shaped the factory’s identity, creating services and cutlery that brought Norwegian design to international attention.
 
Eckhoff’s works are celebrated for combining functional clarity with sculptural elegance. He received the prestigious Lunning Prize in 1953, and his designs are represented in collections at MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the National Museum in Oslo. The Nektar model reflects his distinctive ability to unite modern geometry with everyday utility.
