Cheese slicer in Kongetinn in its original box with plastic lid. Close to perfect condition, with a dull mark on the back of the cutting blade of the cheese slicer (se last picture).
Produced between the 1960s and 1980s.
Friendly reminder: Tin/pewter doesn’t like dishwashers — it prefers a gentle hand wash to keep its shine. Otherwise, it might turn a bit gray and grumpy.
Kongetinn (Royal Pewter):
Kongetinn is one of Norway’s most iconic pewter designs, introduced in the early 1960s by Hardanger Bestikk. It was the company’s most popular series for 22 of its first 30 years. Made from pewter—a soft, silver-grey metal with deep roots in Norwegian tradition—Kongetinn features a distinctive and unified design, where you clearly see Saint Olav (Olav the Holy), Viking ships, Norse ornaments, and the inscription “Heilag Olav og hans menn.”
After the success of the cutlery, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the concept with the Kongekorpus line, adding matching pewter items like beer mugs and candle snuffers, all decorated with the same iconic Kongetinn motifs.
Production of Kongetinn continued until the late 1980s. Though no longer made, it remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and a classic example of mid-20th-century pewter design. Today, Kongetinn pieces are prized collectibles that celebrate Norway’s rich pewter heritage and cultural identity.
