This classic cheese slicer is a perfect example of Kongetinn (Royal Pewter) — one of Norway’s most iconic pewter designs. Unused and preserved in its original box with booklet still inside, it is both functional and collectible, equally suited for everyday use or display.

The story of Kongetinn
Introduced by Hardanger Bestikk in the early 1960s, Kongetinn quickly became the company’s most popular line, dominating sales for 22 of its first 30 years. The motifs combine Saint Olav, Viking ships, Norse ornamentation, and the inscription “Heilag Olav og hans menn” (“Saint Olav and his men”).

Following its success, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the series into the Kongekorpus line, adding mugs, candle snuffers, and other pewter items decorated with the same distinctive motifs. Though production ended in the late 1980s, Kongetinn remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and mid-century design.

Today, pieces like this cheese slicer are sought-after collectibles, uniting everyday function with national heritage.
