The story of Kongetinn
Kongetinn is one of Norway’s most iconic pewter designs, introduced by Hardanger Bestikk in the early 1960s. It became the company’s most popular series, dominating sales for 22 of its first 30 years. The motifs are distinct and unified, combining Saint Olav, Viking ships, Norse ornamentation, and the inscription Heilag Olav og hans menn (“Saint Olav and his men”). Following its success, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the line into Kongekorpus, adding mugs, candle snuffers, and other pewter objects decorated with the same iconic motifs.
Though production ended in the late 1980s, Kongetinn remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and a classic example of mid-20th-century pewter design. Today, these pieces are prized collectibles, carrying forward Norway’s pewter heritage and cultural identity.
