This impressive wall plate is part of Kongetinn (Royal Pewter), one of Norway’s most iconic mid-20th-century pewter designs. Its Viking-inspired motifs — with Saint Olav, longships, and Norse ornaments — give it both historic symbolism and decorative presence. With its generous size and pristine condition, it makes a bold statement on any wall.

The story of Kongetinn
Introduced by Hardanger Bestikk in the early 1960s, Kongetinn quickly became the company’s most popular line, dominating sales for 22 of its first 30 years. The motifs unite Saint Olav, Viking ships, Norse ornamentation, and the inscription “Heilag Olav og hans menn” (“Saint Olav and his men”). Following its success, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the line into Kongekorpus, adding mugs, candle snuffers, and other pewter items with the same distinctive motifs.

Though production ended in the late 1980s, Kongetinn remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and design. Today, pieces like this large wall plate are especially prized by collectors and design enthusiasts — seldom seen, highly collectible, and deeply tied to Norway’s pewter heritage.
