The story of Kongetinn
Kongetinn is one of Norway’s most iconic pewter designs, introduced by Hardanger Bestikk in the early 1960s. For 22 of the company’s first 30 years, it was their most popular series. The motifs combine Saint Olav, Viking ships, Norse ornamentation, and the inscription Heilag Olav og hans menn (“Saint Olav and his men”). After its success, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the concept with the Kongekorpus line, adding mugs, candle snuffers, and other pewter objects carrying the same motifs.

Though production ended in the late 1980s, Kongetinn remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and a classic example of mid-20th-century design. Today, pieces like these salad servers are sought-after collectibles that celebrate Norway’s pewter heritage and cultural identity.
