The Story of Kongetinn (Royal Pewter)
Kongetinn is one of Norway’s most iconic pewter designs, introduced by Hardanger Bestikk in the early 1960s. For 22 of the company’s first 30 years, it was their most popular series. The motifs combine Saint Olav, Viking ships, and Norse ornamentation with the inscription Heilag Olav og hans menn (“Saint Olav and his men”). After its success, Hardanger Bestikk expanded the line with Kongekorpus items such as mugs and candle snuffers, all carrying the same Viking-inspired decoration.
Production ended in the late 1980s, but Kongetinn remains a beloved symbol of Norwegian craftsmanship and mid-century design. Today, pieces like these are sought-after collectibles that celebrate Norway’s pewter heritage.
