This small but vivid åkle presents a detailed hand-embroidered image of Prillar-Guri, the folk heroine who, according to tradition, sounded her horn from the hillside to warn local defenders of the approaching Scottish mercenaries at the Battle of Kringen (1612). Her timely warning allowed the militia to prepare an ambush that turned the tide of battle.
Although not mentioned in official reports, Prillar-Guri’s courage has been carried forward in ballads, oral tradition, and monuments, making her one of the most enduring symbols of bravery in Norwegian folklore.
Likely made during Norway’s 1970s handcraft revival, this åkle combines historical storytelling with traditional textile craft. It is fitted with a sturdy welded iron mount and finished with fringes at the bottom, ready to hang.
A unique example of Norwegian folk heritage: compact, finely made, and rich in meaning. Perfect as a cultural keepsake, a gift, or a decorative accent for those who value history and tradition.
