Step back in time to the golden age of travel souvenirs! This vintage Norwegian scarf – most likely from the 1960s or 70s– is a true retro treasure. Measuring approx. 67 × 67 cm (26.3 × 26.3 inches), it is made of a silky, glossy material typical of tourist scarves of the era. Light, soft, and with colors that remain wonderfully fresh.

✨ Design highlights:

  • A detailed map of Norway at the center, perfect for planning your imaginary road trip.

  • Two bunad-clad ladies: one from Telemark, the other from Gudbrandsdalen – proudly guarding Norwegian tradition.

  • Borders of rosemaling patterns, flowers, and vines, framing the scarf in full folk-art splendor.

  • Around the edges: small painted scenes from Oslo, Trondheim, Røros, Bodø/Tromsø, Lysefjord and other postcard-perfect tourist sites.

This scarf is as much kitsch as culture – a playful, charming piece of Norwegian souvenir history. It may not have been produced in Norway (I actually discovered it in a vintage shop in Helsinki, Finland!), but it represents the spirit of the Norwegian travel boom of the mid-20th century.

💡 How to use it:

  • As a fun and alternative souvenir from your Norway trip – something no modern gift shop will offer.

  • As a fashion statement piece – tie it around your neck, hair, or bag for that bold, retro-folk look.

  • Or simply hang it on the wall as folk art meets vintage travel poster.

Practical note: There’s no care label, but I have washed it on 30°C (cold wash) and ironed it on the lowest setting, and it turned out just fine.

With its bright red border, and cheerful mix of yellow, blue, and green, this scarf is an eye-catching slice of Scandi nostalgia – half history, half humor, 100% retro charm.
