These plates are decorated in the classic Norwegian rosemaling style, with floral motifs in soft, muted tones that highlight the natural light wood ground. The traditional phrase “Skjær pent av osten” adds a humorous, authentic touch, echoing a saying long associated with old Norwegian cheese boards.

Both plates are signed RH for Ragnhild Halvorsen, a respected rosemaler known for teaching and preserving this folk art tradition. One plate still carries her period label, typical for works from the 1980s–1990s, which is likely when these were painted.

Lightweight and compact, the plates are not only beautiful collectibles but also practical for use on a breakfast or buffet table — perfect for serving cheeses or cold cuts. Their size and durability also make them easy to bring home as souvenirs, carrying with them a piece of Norwegian craft, culture, and tradition.
